Today I write about music again, my series of my favorite music albums ever continues.
This time I present you the grand debut “The 5th Exotic” from 2001 by the master of all classes, mulit-instrumentalist, producer, dj and remixer named William Holland better known as “Quantic”.
With already 9 Albums, all released on the fine “Tru Thoughts” label and more then 100 remixes, I still love and listen the most to his Downtempo Jazz HipHop Soul Funk Album “The 5th Exotic”.
The mixture of all the instrumentals with its raw drums, the cool vocal samples, brass, guitar and congas make this a masterpiece of an album that you can listen to over and over again and never get bored. Overall, the album has a very nice common thread and each track is just beautiful and masterfully produced.
Most of the tracks are suitable for chilling or for listening at home. Of course the most tracks fit also in a warm-up set or for after hours.
However, there are also some very nice tracks on the album, which can be played in a good eclectic dj set.
Although I love all songs on the album, my favorite track from “the 5th Exotic” is the catchy superflashy track with the buttery piano sample “Time is the Enemy”:
Will Holland aka Quantic was born and raised in England in small town called Bewdley. After his 4th Studio Album “An Announcement to Answer”, he moved to the big city Cali in Columbia in 2007 for 7 years, where he was before on his travels. There he created 4 more amazing albums with local artists from Columbia. In 2015 he moved to New York City, where he is living and working right now (2016), when he is not on tour.
If you ever get the chance, to listen to a Quantic DJ Set or visit one of his concerts with his band “The Quantic Soul Orchestra”, you should definitely not miss this opportunity. Hardwax would say: “Highly Recommended”
